Buying Outdoor Plants
When buying plants from a garden centre you will find almost all of them to be container grown. This will ensure that the planting out of these is easier on the plant itself, causing next to no root disturbance, and they can therefore be planted at any time of year. Plants can be planted out into the garden as long as the ground is warm enough/not frozen or waterlogged. It is always a good idea to try and find the right plant for the right spot in your garden. Whether it is a shaded, dry or windy site having the right plant in the right situation will only benefit the plant and help it to thrive. The soil may need some preparation before planting, such as improving with some bags of farmyard manure, some grit will help assist drainage and mycorrhizal fungi / bone meal will encourage the plants to establish more quickly. Just remember, right plant – right place – great garden!

The Mains of Drum guarantee to credit or replace any container grown hardy plant which dies, providing it has received reasonable care, bears a Mains of Drum Garden Centre label and is presented for examination with proof of purchase within two years.
